CV Advice Webinar

CV advice webinar

Following a successful series of career advice webinars the team at jobs.ac.uk hosted a CV Advice webinar. Listen to our panellists as they discuss CV advice and tips for how to effectively write a CV for different job types.

Watch the webinar now to hear from the following participants:

Elizabeth Wilkinson, Careers Consultant (Postgraduates) Careers Service, University of Manchester

Elizabeth is the careers consultant for postgraduates at the University of Manchester and a former manager in industry, having worked in HR, graduate recruitment and high tech manufacturing. She won a Times Higher Education Award for supporting early career researchers (the website: An Academic Career) and has organised Pathways, a cross-university careers event for doctoral researchers and research staff, for over 12 years.

Louise Bamford, Careers Consultant (researchers) Professional Development Centre, Brunel University London

Louise is the designated Careers Consultant for doctoral and post-doctoral researchers at Brunel
University London and has over 15 years of experience of HE careers consultancy.
She enjoys the challenge and variety of supporting the career development of researchers from all disciplines in both 1 to 1 consultations and group settings, combined with working on a range of researcher employability initiatives.

She previously completed a PhD in chemistry, after which she spent nearly 12 years in research & development project management at the fast-moving consumer goods company Procter & Gamble. This means she can draw on varied personal experience of completing doctoral research in academia, a move into new product development in industry and then later into a professional services role in higher education.

You can ask her about any of the above!

Holly Prescott, PGR Careers Adviser, Careers Network, University Graduate School, University of Birmingham

Holly is currently the Careers Adviser for Postgraduate Researchers at the University of Birmingham. She completed her PhD in Literature and Cultural Geography at Birmingham in 2011. Since completing her PhD, she has gained seven years’ experience in postgraduate student recruitment and postgraduate careers support and has been awarded a PGDip (QCG) in Career Guidance from Coventry University and the Career Development Institute. She is currently co-chair of the national AGCAS Research Students and Research Staff careers Task Group and is a guest Masterclass presenter for FindaPhD.

Holly is particularly passionate about developing Postgraduate Researchers’ awareness of career routes beyond and adjacent to academic research and helping them to make transitions into meaningful post-doctoral careers. She has a book chapter on this subject, ‘Beyond the doctorate: getting your first job,’ recently published in ‘Keeping your Doctorate on Track’ (ed. M.N.K Saunders & K. Townsend, March 2020).
