Exploring AI Careers in Academia

There has undoubtedly been a huge increase in advertised jobs in AI over the last 12 months, and whilst the majority have been advertised in the industrial sector, the trend is mirrored in Higher Education as the demand for teaching AI subjects has increased and the focus shifts to exploring AI careers in academia. Opportunities for experts in the field to teach future generations this fast-growing ever-changing discipline are at an all-time high.  Artificial intelligence is everywhere and seems here to stay.

With the fast-paced rise in AI development, research into emerging advances in AI is crucial. In turn, this knowledge needs to be imparted in the right way for new theories and developments to be acknowledged and acted upon.

There are hundreds of opportunities available if you are interested in researching the theory underlying AI, the application of AI, methodology development, emotional intelligence in robotics, or combinatory Artificial Intelligence (known as third-wave AI) in the context of defence applications to aid with challenging defence problems. AI research addresses the impact on intelligent autonomous agents’ design and development.

Universities are vying for experts in Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interface and AI and Operations Research. From Professor, Senior Lecturer,  and Lecturer to researcher, there are hundreds of jobs available from AI platform development associate, to teaching deep learning for future communication systems, robotics and AI for net zero, to AI in theoretical philosophy, and with technological advances in security comes increased vulnerability to attack, so developing AI-driven solutions to identify potential weaknesses is vital.
