Professor Carlo Harvey – Academic Spotlight Interview

Professor Carlo Harvey

Professor Carlo Harvey

This month at jobs.ac.uk, we interviewed Professor Carlo Harvey and discussed all things games!

From an early age, Professor Carlo Harvey had been inspired by the science and technology behind computer games development. This growing interest led Carlo to pursue a degree in computer science at the University of Bristol. Carlo’s final year project, based on Howard Carter’s exploration of ancient Egypt, inspired an interest in graphics and their application in cultural heritage and historical preservation. He continued this research as he completed a PhD at the University of Warwick, which opened new doors into academia.

Carlo quickly learned that games technology has the power to change the world. Wanting to contribute to this and make an impact, he pursued his interests in this field. Now, as a Professor at Birmingham City University he is the subject lead for Games, inspiring students and staff with his participatory teaching style and hands-on approach to projects.

Carlo’s inspirational academic career extends beyond the games lab! Since the start of his career, Carlo has published in the fields of computer graphics, acoustics and artificial intelligence. He has won a number of awards, such as Tiga outstanding lecturer, Innovate UK – best business impact and transformation.

Carlo’s passion and dedication into bridging academia and practice, coupled with his innate ability to inspire, marks him as a trailblazer in the realm of games technology and beyond. You can watch Carlo’s full interview below.
