Introducing our inaugural event: Careers in Asia 2019

careers in asia

Earlier this year we asked jobs.ac.uk visitors whether they’d like an opportunity to meet with senior representatives from Asian universities here in the UK, to discuss their career opportunities.

We found out that 89% of our respondents were interested in attending this kind of international networking and recruitment event.

Because of this, we’ve decided to launch Careers in Asia 2019, our inaugural event to help connect academics based in the UK with those in Asia.

With the event only a couple of months away, we’re excited to announce that registration is now open.

Read on below to find out about how attending Careers in Asia 2019 could help you get started in developing your career, expertise and research in Asia.

Why should you consider furthering your career in Asia?

Asia is the fastest growing economy in the world and with the population expanding rapidly, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development predicts that Asia will soon be home to two-thirds of the global middle class.[1]

The continent also offers an academically rich career with 505 institutions featuring in the QS World rankings, in comparison to 450 the previous year[2].

This rapid growth creates an exciting opportunity for new and cutting-edge research collaborations within higher education in Asia.

With these recent developments in mind, now is the perfect time to start exploring what this kind of international experience could do for your academic career.

How do you start pursuing your career in Asia?

We understand the amount of work that needs to go into finding the right opportunities, as well as how hard it can be to get the information you need when considering moving abroad to develop your career.

That’s why when we realised just how big the demand was from UK based academics for opportunities to meet face-to-face with Asian universities, we decided to deliver Careers in Asia 2019.

By attending Careers in Asia 2019 you’ll be able to directly connect with senior representatives from Asian universities and discuss your opportunities in person.

Any questions you have about working in Asia you can get answered instantly, and you’ll begin to feel more prepared in your pursuit of internationalising your career in Asia.

Who is Careers in Asia 2019 for?

With our event Careers in Asia 2019 we’re aiming to bridge the gap between academics based in the UK and in Asia.

We want to put influential people interested in developing their career in Asia in the same room, to help spark new academic collaborations.

If you’re currently engaged in your PhD or you’re an experienced academic, intrigued by the thought of working in Asia and wondering what prospects it could bring you, then this event is for you.

Since places are limited we recommend you to register your attendance today to save yourself a place at Careers in Asia 2019.

Where is the event and who will be there?

The event will take place at Savoy Place, The Institute of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) prestigious London home on Saturday, 22 June 2019. It’s the perfect location for exploring your exciting opportunities in Asia.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, including a drinks reception overlooking The River Thames where you can further network with other academics, and make the important connections which could develop your career.

As for our speakers and exhibitors, we have a distinguished line-up. Our Gold sponsor, Zhejiang University, currently ranks among the top 5 universities in China and within the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings. Among our silver exhibitors are universities also ranked within the top 20 in China by QS University Rankings.

An up to date list with all of our exhibitors and scheduled speakers can be found here on our website. You can also be kept up to date and gain more insight into our speakers’ backgrounds by following our LinkedIn event page.

How will this event help you?

Attending Careers in Asia 2019 will be an excellent opportunity for you to meet with potential employers in Asia, explore the possible research and educational opportunities, as well as any visiting scholar posts.

Not only will you be able to meet face-to-face with our exhibitors, but our full and exciting programme of university-led presentations and career workshops will support you in your current role, as well as your career advancement.

Plus, being in the same room as your peers, academics developing their networks and research interests, and exploring the potential for new collaborations is always an unmissable and energizing atmosphere.

Why you shouldn’t miss out on this event

We don’t want you to miss out on what is set to be instrumental day in facilitating networking between UK based academics and Asian higher education institutions.

Whether you’ve just started your PhD or you’re an experienced academic, attending Careers in Asia 2019 will help you connect with other academics and explore your future career opportunities in Asia.

Places at Careers in Asia 2019 are limited, to avoid missing out please register today. For more information about the event please visit our website. If you have any questions about the event, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’d love to see you in London!
