Materials Science and Engineering Jobs Profile

Materials science and engineering lecturers teach undergraduate and postgraduate students across both engineering and physical and environmental sciences faculties. A jobs.ac.uk we’ve created Materials Science and Engineering jobs profile to give you an insight into this academic discipline.

Essential criteria would be a PhD in materials science or engineering or a closely allied discipline or equivalent professional experience and qualifications.

You would also need to show evidence of prior research outputs and well as the ability to attract funding.

Professional membership with a body such as the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) may also be required.

What’s the pay?

Lecturers can expect a starting salary of between £38,333 – £47,155 p.a., depending on experience.

What can it lead to?

Your next move would be to apply for a senior lecturer or associate professor position. Promotion would depend on your research and teaching experience and ability to contribute to the overall strategy of the department or school.
